For those planning year-end VTL travel to Europe, Hilton has launched a Winter Sale featuring 25% off weekend stays at hotels (this sale also covers the Middle East and Africa, and Dubai’s a popular pick for those hoping to escape the harsh European winter)

Your bookings must be made by 31 January 2022, with stays till 9 May 2022. Three days’ advance reservations are required, and full payment is required at the time of booking. Reservations cannot be refunded or changed. It’s best to confirm those plans early, and get travel insurance while you are at it.

To illustrate how much you could save, we’ve searched some rates for hotels across VTL countries. Some of these hotels include where Dickson stayed in his European Extravaganza adventure in 2019!

  • Hilton Paris Opera: €256
  • Hilton La Defense (review): €141
  • Hilton Barcelona: €104
  • Rome Cavalieri Waldorf Astoria: €262
  • Hilton Lake Como: €118
  • Hilton London Olympia (review): £120
  • Hilton London Kensington (review): £131
  • DoubleTree by Hilton Amsterdam Centraal Station: €179
  • Hilton Amsterdam: €191
  • Hilton Munich Park: €105

In most cases, you’ll get better value by paying the discounted cash rates than redeeming points (based on a value of 0.5-0.6 US cents per point).

Register for Hilton’s Q4 promo

If you’re planning to book stays with Hilton hotels, don’t forget to register for Hilton’s Q4 promo. Till 31 December, you will get 2X points on your stays, and 3X points if you own a Hilton credit card (though that’s mainly for US Credit Card holders)

Stays must be made between 7 September and 31 December 2021. The bonus refers to base points; elite points will not be multiplied. Here’s how many points you can expect to earn for every dollar.

Since base points are only awarded based on spend before taxes, you won’t earn anything for an award night. However, if you spend on hotel F&B or other ancillaries and charge it to your room, you’ll earn bonus points on that expenditure. You will also get rollover nights if you stay in 2020, based on the latest requalification methods Hilton announced last month.

What card should I use for Hilton bookings?

Bookings are processed in foreign currency, so here’s a collection of cards to consider.

OCBC 90N Visa

UOB Visa Signature

Another possible option would be the DBS Woman’s World Card, but it’s a hit and miss since the card may only be charged at the point of check-in.

Don’t forget to pair it with the Amaze Card, which can help you save on FCY fees while earning 4mpd, that’s what Dickson does with his family’s UOB Lady’s Card. Don’t pair it with the Citi Rewards though – hotel expenditure doesn’t qualify for 4 mpd with the Citi Rewards.

Conclusion

If you’re heading to Europe for some VTL travel (hopefully not Denmark!), Hilton’s winter sale may interest you.

Do note that the rates are non-refundable, so it’s advisable to purchase travel insurance that covers trip cancellation or disruption!
